Aims of the MaS Method
The Centre for Social Medicine has for many years been experimenting a new approach to various forms of “disagio diffuso”, without using psychotropic drugs, through implementation of the “Metodo Alla Salute”.
The main principle behind the MaS Method lies in the fact that the term “health” derives from the Old English hælþ, which in turn has its root in the Sanskrit kailo-, meaning “whole” (which, interestingly enough, has the same root!). This shows that every “live phenomenon” (individual, relational, social, institutional, etc.) is a global entity, a series of interrelated, multidimensional and complex factors that are specific to that particular situation.
This is an atypical form of psychotherapy which goes beyond the traditional setting, and aims to create complex regenerative dynamics between all people involved in the treatment process and does not pigeonhole or classify the various types of malaise.
By creating a series of complex, circular dynamics during “Gruppo alla Salute meetings, the MaS Method aims to recognise the value of all individuals and encourage them to develop the skills needed for life in today's complex and globalized society, by defining and experimenting a theory–and–practice approach to treating social and personal malaise. This allows all participants to develop the ability to listen, interrelate through there specific natures, immerse themselves in their roots and background and narrate their personal experiences, enabling them to develop their own theories on life based on the “common ground” of experiences, or write about and publish them in the quarterly journal Limax, published by the Nuova Specie Association and LAM Studium.
“Treatment” also includes supervision meetings, open to all Group participants, for individuals, couples or families who are going through difficult periods of transition or change”.
